Welcome Our New CEO!

I’m delighted to be the new CEO of Derbyshire Community Bank, serving the Members and community of Derby and Derbyshire. I’ve been involved in the credit union sector since 1996, most recently as CEO of Advance Credit Union in Birmingham since 2015. Over those years the credit union sector has transformed from being small and volunteer-dependent into larger employee-led businesses.

We remain focussed on serving our Members, providing savings and loans services enabling people in our community to flourish in life.

I am passionate about enabling people to manage their money well. We are privileged every day to hear the stories of how being a credit union Member has enabled people to improve their family finances, taught them how to stay in control of their money and allowed them to plan for the future they didn’t think was possible for them. We achieve that be helping people save regularly and borrow affordably when they need to.

Derbyshire Community Bank is on a journey, and hopefully our Members will join us in that as we continue to grow, improve our services and change lives.

Phil Cole, CEO, Derbyshire Community Bank

Imagine your income dropped and you couldn't keep up with loan payments, what would you do?

We're sending a survey asking our Members who have missed loan payments what else we could do to support them.

We are here to support our Members to manage their money well, borrowing affordably when they need to. Nobody intends to miss loan payments, but sometimes that doesn't work out and we work with Members to get back on track. But there is always more we can do! Find out more about our Missed Payments process..

We will be making a change to our savings accounts from next month. Some Members have a General Saver account as well as a Share 1 account. To keep things simple, we will merge General Saver accounts into Share 1.

This change will affect 394 Members.

We have now introduced electronic identity verification to our new Member process. A new joiner will be sent to our partner Yoti, which will scan and verify your identity documents. This all helps new joiners to demonstrate they are who they say they are.

Identity theft, mule accounts, spoofing - all ways that criminals attempt to defraud organisations including Derbyshire Community Bank.

With bank holidays coming up we thought we would advise members when to expect child benefits to reach there credit union accounts during the holiday period.

Child benefit due on 25th and 26th of December will be received by us on Friday 22nd December.
Child benefit due on 1st January should be received by us on Friday 29th December.

Other child benefit payment dates should stay the same.
